Tay Forest Challenge
Still the toughest, trickiest, nastiest Winch Challenge in the UK

CANCELLED
It is with the greatest regret and with a massive sense of disappointment that Scotia Winch Challenge Club announces the cancellation of Tay Forest Challenge for 2009 due to the continuing and deliberate imposition of unreasonable conditions by the Communities, Recreation and Tourism Manager of Forestry Commission Scotland, Tay Forest District with the sole intention of preventing every event with an element of risk from taking place.
We appreciate the inconvenience of cancellation at this late stage, however having spent the last 2 months attempting to negotiate a reasonable compromise, we have now run out of time and have no choice but to cancel. We have no confidence that FCS will not simply change the Conditions again once they see the routes we have set and that we will be arguing about it to the last minute with the risk the event would not be run to our normal challenging standards which would pointless. All entry fees will be refunded and we are considering what action can be taken against FCS for recovery of outlays so far.
SWCC has, as a main aim, to organise winch challenge events in Scotland with all surplus proceeds being given to charity and so far has given over £10,000 to charities local to the events As well as local businesses benefitting from the participants expenditure by as much as £100,000 each year. It is not just the financial loss, it is ironic that during the ‘Year of Homecoming’ we are prevented from running an event that has a worldwide following and has raised Scotland’s profile in the 4x4 world.
No entry fee cheques have been banked and will be either shredded or returned as appropriate.

SWCC Committee. July 2nd 2009
As everyone knows, SWCC, like most Clubs, is non profit making but over time generally has a surplus. This comes from generous donations from sponsors, from organisers and marshals and helpers giving time and goods that we otherwise have budgeted for and we give this money to a different charity every time. Since we started we have given around £10,000 to local charities and last year we gave £2500 to Perth Royal Infirmary. It's always good to give a little back and let the world know we're not all Chelsea Tractor driving planet killers.
