Tay Forest Challenge
Rules and Regulations
last updated June 2008
As most know, we have always thought that the fewer the rules the less chance of breaking them. Since our move to Perthshire in 2007, however, our sport has changed and we must embrace the Nanny State and introduce a few basic rules and regulations to protect you from yourselves. We have introduced a short set of rules which will be applied equally and rigorously by the Event Officials.
Last year we were very disappointed to see that no one needed to be put in the Sin Bin but with the introduction of a few extra rules the opportunity to see someone publicly humiliated is greater than ever
Rules
· Only Organizers, competitors & marshals vehicles are allowed on the Forest Enterprise land –there are no exceptions - no family, support vehicles or any other “hangers-on” will be permitted – this is a private, closed event and we discourage spectators, please do not try to bend this rule as we do not want to offend anyone by asking them to leave. Access gates will remain locked throughout the duration of the event. If assistance is required for the repair of any breakages etc. special arrangements can be made for access to the site through officials based at Command/Control.
· Strict 15 mph speed limit within the Forest Enterprise boundary.
· During all transit sections the Marshal’s vehicle will be between the team’s vehicles.
· Both team vehicles will enter & leave every section together, in turn. No section will be started by a single vehicle if they have finished the previous section ahead of their team-mate.
· At EVERY section entry & exit point please ensure that absolutely no wheel spinning or damage is done – If the entry or exit is steep the vehicles must be winched in or out without drive assist. I want to achieve a ”tread lightly” level never before reached so as nobody will even know we have ever been!
· We will be using specific coloured tape to denote areas where particular care MUST be taken. Failure to take notice will result in penalties.
·
There are at least 20 sections for you to
attempt over the two days and only 2 reasons for refusing any one of them.
1. The section is busy and an unreasonable wait is anticipated – if this is the
case you may return to this section once you have completed an entire circuit of
all the sections in sequence.
2. In your opinion the section is too severe for either the vehicle or the
entrants – if this is the case you cannot return to this section EVER.
· There is a compulsory 30 minute lunch halt where you must return to Command/Control within a specific time window, no exceptions will be made to this rule – this time window will be advised on the day.
· An additional event card will only be issued once all the sections have been completed without exception. If you manage to complete all the sections we have laid out I will be delighted to issue another event card and you can start the circuit again.
· If you return to Control having completed all the sections you are able without having completed the entire circuit your team will be deemed to have finished the event.
All vehicles must be road legal for the UK.
This means appropriate Road Tax, MOT certificate and Insurance valid for the
period of the event as cars will be driven on the public highway at some
point and without this paperwork you risk Police involvement.
Helmets: From 2007 head protection is advised, becoming compulsory from 2008 FOR ALL COMPETITORS
Helmet Standards: BS 6658 Type A (Type B is not acceptable) As per MSA "Blue Book" (page 163)
The BS6658-85 standard is the minimum standard to which helmets must conform in order to be considered as appropriate for motorsport. There is Type A and A/FR the latter being the BS equivalent for the FIA approval. We can also accept the following standards which meet and exceed BS 6658-85:
FIA 8860-2004
SNELL SA2005
SNELL SA2000
SFI FOUNDATION 31.1A, 31.2A
Note: Motorcycle helmets, horse riding helmets, cycling helmets or ANY other form of head protection is not acceptable unless it has one or more of the above stickers. The MSA standards requires fireproof linings which are not normally needed except in motorsport.
Helmet fit and security (excerpts from the "Blue Book")

Helmets should be comfortable but fit snugly. Check there is no side to side movement.
Tighten straps securely. The chin strap must be under tension at all times. Chin cups are prohibited.
With the head leant forward, attempt to pull up the back of the helmet, to ensure the helmet cannot be removed in this way.
Ensure you can see over each shoulder.
Ensure nothing impedes your breathing in the helmet and never cover your nose and mouth.
Ensure that any visor can be opened with 1 gloved hand
Ensure the back of the helmet provide protection for your neck
Never wear a scarf or other loose clothing which could come loose and cause an accident
Do not buy mail order unless you can carry out the above checks; return a helmet unused if it does not fit.
