Tay Forest Challenge
2007 Details

All,
Well the dust has now settled on
what appears to be the most successful 4x4 Winch Challenge we ( the SWCC
mob) have ever had!
Where do I start?
Why not with the hotel - The
Craigvrack Hotel did us proud, from the accommodation, to the Scottish
"barbeque" and the use of their carpark as a venue of Scrapheap Challenge.
Steve Coopers vehicle was
getting a pressure wash on Monday morning, before heading South -
outstanding!
The campsite - Murray saved our
bacon due to the severe lack of available sites/b&b's willing to take on our
sort of visitors. Factor in the Blair Atholl horsey crowd and you can see
the problems.
The location was just about
perfect and he managed to arrange the portaloos for us as well.
I know it was not the Ritz, but
hell it was better than nothing!
His neighbours thought he had
organised a rave - almost right, just lacked the groupies!!!
If any campers still owe Murray
their site dues please contact me and I will give you his phone number.
Pitlochry - this is a well known
town on the tourist route North, not used to 40+ dirty big 4x4 vehicles
disturbing the peace! This location did concern me a little prior to the
event, however this was totally unfounded as the locals were equally
dumbfounded, stopped in their tracks as their brains attempted to comprehend
what their eyes were seeing!
To all - a big thank you for me
being able to return to this town and not see to many wanted posters with my
face on them!
Tay Forest Enterprise - the
land, that wonderful land. This made it for me, I was spoilt for choice
solely due to the understanding and willingness of Graham Stirling,
Operations Forester, Strathtay & Strathearn, to buy into the TFC concept
wholeheartedly. Graham stayed with us during all the setting up, marking out
and the event itself, lending advice and guidance whenever asked or needed.
Without his commitment and support there would not have been a TFC 2007.
The marshals - They are crazy!
Why would anyone give freely of their time and money to dash about,
following a bunch of loons, cavorting through the forest over a weekend
miles from home?
God alone knows - and I thank
God for each and every one of them because they are the foundations upon
which we build the event.
For four years now they have
shown unswerving loyalty to the concept that is the AFC/TFC - I feel humbled
in your presence.
The competitors - They come from
far & wide with a single minded passion to get inside my head and find out
how my brain works - please, anyone, if you have any success let me know
because I sure don't!
I/we the organisers have a hell
of a job to get the balance anywhere close to acceptable regarding format,
level of difficulty, driveability & the guidance/rules to make the damn
thing run smoothly.
The only way of testing the toy
is getting the right mix of competitors, from the complete novice to the 4x4
guru to bench test it - I think this year we were honoured to have such a
worthy list and I thank you for having the confidence in attending.
In summary, a big thank to all
who helped and participated from me and the rest of the organisers.
For & on behalf of the TFC Team,
Andy Thomlinson.
